A Whirlwind Turnaround

Last time I wrote I was in Texas….today I am in Portland, Oregon.  A whirlwind weekend at home spent weeding, releasing lady bugs, and planting the vegetable gardens.  This weekend highlights the importance of planning.

I am still in the middle of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and the timing couldn’t be better.  Habit 3 speaks to identifying life’s purpose, setting goals both long term and short, and defining the weekly and daily agendas.  I believe I did pretty well at that for the short period of time I had at home, I got a lot accomplished but even better I was able to spend quality time with both Mother and my daughter.  I know if I had not planned ahead and defined what I was to achieve each day, then I would not have been able to spend that time without feelings of guilt and angst.  It talks of priorities, interactions with others, controlling crises, and embracing spontaneity, all while still accomplishing your goals.

This third habit I have read through twice now and gleaned so much more the second time around.  I cannot recommend this book enough.

It is odd that I purchased this book years ago, attempted to read it and it just didn’t make sense to me.  I struggled to understand what Stephen was trying to convey from the beginning, never clearly saw it or how it impacted me so I put it down.  (Actually I put it on the bookshelf where it made its way to the back.)  Last month I was talking with my mentor and he brought up the value of this book.  Well, I guess I had to find it and try again.  And I’m glad I did.

It’s a slow read, but it’s been well worth the time.

You can buy your copy on Amazon.com or borrow it from your local library.  Take notes, implement.
